The Consulate

This painting represents “The Consulate”, a very emotive  piece of orchestral music from the film, “Mao’s Last Dancer”.

Painted on a light timber panel, this work “reads” in two horizontal lines like a piece of sheet music. The shapes represent different types of sounds within the piece. Individual reverberating double piano notes  introduce the music, then a crescendo booms in and takes over, mutiple violin strings blend and wash over each other in waves of sound, sharp metallic Chinese instruments, Asian influences, rythmic beats that fade in and out, climaxes of sound, low, soft, deep blended sounds like whales in the ocean and a hollow, lonely flute at the end.
